How to create your web page

  1. Web pages are written in a language called HTML. If you are not familiar with the HTML language, don't worry. There are editors which will allow you to create your web page interactively. Here are some good editors:
Netscape Communicator - The Netscape Composer which comes with Netscape Communicator is an easy to use editor for writing web pages.
    Microsoft's Front Page - Microsoft's HTML editor

Your main page must be called index.html (or index.htm if your system doesn't allow long file names).
If you want to learn the HTML language and develop professional pages you can find the complete HTML manual at www.w3.org

  2. You will need some graphic tools to design the graphics for your page. Corel PhotoPaint or Adobe PhotoShop would be good choices. There are good shareware tools as well, try Paint Shop Pro.

  3. You might want to search the Internet for some image galleries rather than scanning/creating your own graphics.

  4. After you have designed your web page you need to upload it to our server. The good HTML editors, like Netscape Gold, have upload/publish features. Also, you can use any FTP program to upload your web pages. You will find some upload instructions at your webpage location (usually it would be http://users.gekko.net/~username). If your personal web page doesn't exist yet please contact webmaster@gekko.net.

If you have your own domain, please check your home page http://www.yourdomain.com for instructions on uploading. If your web site doesn't come up, please check if your domain name is registered. If you have any questions please e-mail webmaster@gekko.net.
