Our history

The first services of the church were held in the home of Ben and Ruby Lane on March 25, 1959. It was founded on August 9, 1959 as the Bible Baptist Church with 17 members. They met in the Women's Club of West Palm Beach

The church grew and acquired three acres of land at 42OO North Australian Avenue and built a church building. During the following years they added additions on the original buildings and opened a kindergarten.

During the 1970's numerous changes were taking place in the history of the church. In 1970, the name of the church was changed to Berean Baptist Temple. In 1972 change in pastors occurred as Pastor Mike Kalapp assumed the pulpit. Also, the school was extended through the ninth grade and continued to grow into a day care ministry as well.

With continued growth taking place in the church and school, it was obvious that the present location would not accommodate all of the needs of a contemporary ministry and still have room for expansion. In October 1984, the campus on Australian Avenue was sold to Palm Beach County, and the church purchased sixteen acres of land on Okeechobee Boulevard. Construction of a new worship center and school facilities began in the spring of 1986. On November 23, 1986, Berean Baptist Temple had its Dedication Service in the new facilities.

Dr Mike Kalapp accepted an invitation to pastor a church in California in June of 1990. In July, Dan Burrell was called to be the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Temple. The Lord blessed the church and school ministries with a period of very rapid growth. Pastor Dan Burrell brought several innovative changes to the ministry including the decisions to change the name of the church to Berean Baptist Church, and the addition of multiple worship services. As the ministry nearly doubled in size and as county plans proceeded which would add 10,000 homes within 10 miles of the church within 10 years, it became evident that to reach the community effectively with the gospel and to take care of the needs of the church and school, a larger auditorium would need to be built.

Pastor Burrell and the church leadership have worked together to build a thirty-year plan of continued growth and expansion as the Lord wills and continues to bless the church and the school. A comprehensive master plan was approved by the church and designs to implement the first phase of the plan are a part of the "Capture the Moment" emphasis.

With an excited look to the future, we can anticipate great and mighty blessings from the Lord.
