The Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) is a public-private partnership working to diversify and expand the economy of Martin County by broadening the tax base and expanding employment opportunities. The Martin County Commissioners have had the vision to prepare an Economic Element of our Comprehensive Plan to guide the direction of economic development.

To accomplish Martin County's economic development goals, the BDBMC conducts a Business Retention and Expansion Program whereby staff and volunteers work to assist existing businesses with their expansion plans. The BDBMC also encourages and assists new businesses in relocating to Martin County.

Additionally, Martin County has had the vision and leadership to purchase important environmental lands and supports the expansion of Nature Based Heritage Tourism. The BDBMC promotes the active utilization of these properties and the economic opportunities that arise from tourism.

The Business Development Board also works closely with the Jobs and Education Partnership, Martin County School System, Indian River Community College and others involved in the education and training of the local and regional workforce. The importance of a qualified, trained workforce has been recognized and addressed in order to meet the continuing needs of Martin County businesses.
